Crockpot Recipes save you time and money!
Crockpot recipes are a great source for not only grocery savings (the focus of this web site), but can also be a time saver!
How do these recipes yield grocery savings? The same way BBQ and pressure cooking does – you can cook lower quality cuts of meat transforming them into succulent, tender, delicious meals for your family. Crockpots are kind of like an indoor barbeque without the smoke. In both methods of cooking, low and slow is the key. A brisket or boston butt might stay in a smoker for eight to 12 hours. Similarly, many crockpot recipes call for an 8 hour cook time.
However, what sets crockpot recipes aside is that they are plentiful and more diverse. You can find recipes for stews, shredded meat, vegetarian dishes…the list is nearly endless. Crockpot cookbooks even have beverage recipes in them. I remember once as a kid coming into the kitchen and stirring the contents of my mom’s crockpot. I stirred it all up and did a good job to boot. I dutifully replaced the lid. A few minutes later my mom walked in and I asked her what was in the crockpot and she said it was a meat loaf recipe. Well, needless to say, there wasn’t much “loaf” to our meatloaf that night. Oh well, it was good nonetheless.
The next question, is how does a crockpot save me time when these recipes call for an eight-hour cook time?!?!?! Well, it saves you time because your prepare all of the ingredients, put them in the pot, set the setting and let it sit until dinner time. If you know you are going to have a busy evening and don’t want hot dogs, a crockpot recipe might be the answer. The trade-off, of course, is that you have to ensure you have enough time in the morning to prepare the meal.
